MFX Plugins Drum Production Tips
Here are a few tips on spicing up your drum production using three MFX software plugins, the Digi-PCM Echo, Quaidraverb Reverb and the 2051 Bit Corrupter.
Creating a flanger effect using the Digi-PCM
Using a flanger effect is a great wasy to add movement and texture to drum patterns or samples. Creating a flanger with the Digi-PCM is quick and straightforward. The Digi-PCM is a robust, feature rich digital delay with a plethora of controls but when used simply we can achieve interesting results.
What is a flanger?
Creating a flanger is a fairly straightforward audio production technique that is made using a delay with a very short time setting and subtle time modulation. When the wet and dry signal interact, the swept frequencies cancel out, creating the sound of the flanger.
The Digi-PCM's time control goes down to 1ms, making it easy to quickly take the delay into flanger territory once time modulation is added. Using the many controls of the Digi-PCM, a standard flanger effect can be taken in many different directions. For example, the texture can be changed by lowering the bandwidth and bit depth settings and increased modulation depth and rate can add chaos to the sound.

Creating a gated snare with the Quaidraverb
The Quaidraverb, our 90s style digital reverb, is well suited for creating classic big gated snare sounds.
What is a gated snare?
The gated snare is one of the most iconic and recognisable production techniques from the 80s. Used on countless 80s hits, the technique consists of using a digital reverb with a long tail and gating the tail to cut off the reverb before it fully decays. This results in an especially big, digital snare sound.

Creating glitchy drums using the 2051 Bit Corrupter
Glitchy, choppy drums are a very prominent feature in music genres like IDM and D&B. Originally this started with manually editing drum samples by cutting and rearranging them, but over time new techniques have emerged. Our 2051 Bit Corrupter plugin has the unique ability to recreate this sound using it's glitch, repeat and other audio quality controls.
What is the 2051 Bit Corrupter?
The 2051 Bit Corrupter is a one of a kind audio buffer that imitates the sound of malfunctioning audio equipment in real time. The included sync control makes it easy to control the 'malfunctioning' audio and sync it with your DAW to use rhythmically.
The 2051 Bit Corruptor is available exclusively through our MFX plugins bundle, a collection of all 11 of our MFX plugins. To hear more of the 2051 Bit Corrupter check our the MFX Plugins Bundle page.
